It is obvious that Sarah is nude beneath her fur blanket and she is certain that the guards are going to forbid them from entering or question her due to this, but the guards don’t pay her any mind. They simply look bored and tired. They do a quick half-hearted inspection of the wagons and open the gates. The caravan goes through. The plaza they enter is vast and crowded. Shops, taverns, inns, restaurants, and stores she has never seen in her life and doesn't recognize surround the plaza. The businesses are tightly packed together so that not even an inch of space is wasted. They drive the wagon to the center of the plaza. ”This is where you get off." the man says. "This is one of the busiest sections of the city. You’re bound to find some work here. You can probably even find something you enjoy." Part of her wants to beg the traders not to leave her and to take her with them, but doubts it will be of any use. Besides, she suspects that a city of this size holds a clue as to where she was and how to get back. “Will we ever see each other again?”“We pass through this city four times a year to collect and sell supplies. We'll be back in this very plaza three months from now. If you're still around, come by and say hello. I’ll be curious to see how you're doing.” Not knowing what else to do, she awkwardly hugs him through the blanket (which he accepts without complaint) and steps down onto the ground. The Caravan continues along its way further into the city. She is once again naked and in the cold.
However, she is no longer the only one with that problem. She realizes that the reason no one reacted to her nudity is because in this city, it isn't uncommon. As many as one in five people in this very crowded plaza are mostly (only wearing underpants or a shirt) or completely naked. Men and women, young and old, are spread around, unashamed of their nudity and no one else paying them any mind-not even the men to the young women. Despite their differences, there is one trait that they all have in common: they are all filthy. Dirt, mud, and even excrement covers the skin of every naked person she sees. If they are lucky enough to have an article of clothing, it is permanently stained with different shades of blacks, browns, and reds. None of the fully-dressed people comes even close to the levels of filthiness of these naked people.She knows that this could be her one day if she doesn’t get some clothes. She has to find a job. But where?
