He goes down the stairs and is about to turn the handle when he freezes. It suddenly strikes him how absurd and crazy this is, following a ghost into a dark room of a phantom house. He didn't notice this at the time, but he now realizes ever since he saw the ghost of Danielle, he has felt an obligation to follow her wherever she goes. It is just like how when you are dreaming, you are at the mercy of whatever is happening, often with no way over change it and unaware of how ridiculous your actions are until you wake up. And he feels as if he has just woken up, but in a different way.
There is something bad behind this door. Now awake, he swears he can feel a presence unlike anything he ever experienced before but that he recognizes as malicious, repugnant, and evil in its most objective meaning. He goes back up the stairs and closes the door behind him. He will not go down there ever again. He would rather die than face what is in there.Even so, he is still stuck in whatever this is and needs to escape. Since he is already in the newly created 7th house and now in sound mind, he decides to look around. Perhaps the this place holds some clues as to what is going on and even a way out.
