In an instant, Sarah's visions of elves as cute little midgets vanished
and replaced with tall, broad, strong men, who knew nothing of
smiling. Each one of them was mounted atop a large stallion whose
appearance matched the earthly soil.
"Glak I edan!" One of the elves yelled harshly, and they then began to circl around Sarah and Amergin. As the elves continued doing this, a large dust cloud began to form in the middle of them. Sarah began to wheeze and tear up. She used the top of her costume to obtain fresh air as well as wipe her eyes dry. By the time she retained her vison, she could see, groggily, two elves holding an enormous net at each end, dash towards Amergin. Before Amergin could react, the. The net struck him and slammed him into the ground so hard that he bounced slightly, before being gravitated again. It was like a whip smack. Sarah watched in horror as a long trail of blood from Amergin's back began to stain the soil. She tried to scream, to beg that they stop, but her words were drowned by the rat-a-tat of horse hooves. Eventually, the horses dragging Amergin came to halt. "Sank!" said the same elf in the same harsh voice. Half of the elves wheeled over to where Amergin laid the other half around her. The elf that had spoken earlier-one that stood over six feet, wore long strings of gray hair which fell down to the joints of his neck, and bore unblinking gray eyes, dismounted his horse and began pacing towards her. Sarah was petrified. She closed her eyes tightly as if it would cause everything around her to not really exist. Each step the elf took let her know that he was getting nearer and nearer. When she could feel the elf's warm breathe, as well as smell its body odor, she stiffened her body and turned her head slightly to prepare for a blow. Instead, however, all she felt a strong, dry hand grab hold of her hand and slight bit of moisture touch it. She opened her eyes…and then had to blink several times to make sure she was seeing correctly. In front of her, the tall, lean elf was kneeling before her, kissing her hand. The elf finished his kiss and said "gorga n'uma'nat' lle tariena varna." His voice was as calm and gently as a lake on a windless day. Even so, she was still trembling all over. "Ill nid crème?" he said. She feared speaking would make him angry, yet she feared not responding would do the same. "Ill nid crème?" he repeated. Again, Sarah said nothing. However, the elf just gave her the faintest hint of a smile and pattered her on the shoulder. He then turned around and walked over to Amergin, who was struggling within the net. When the tall and fierce elf's shadow cast over Amergin, he ceased his struggle. They stared at each other for what seemed like minutes. During the whole time, it was eerily silent; the wildlife around them seemed to have vanished, the rustling of the leaves ceased, and the elves speechless and motionless. "May I ask what this is all about?" Amergin finally asked coldly."Don't play fool with us, human. You've been caught in an act." The elf said sharply. "Is that so? I had no idea I was putting on such an "act."Even with the elf's back turned to her; Sarah could tell he was furious; she could feel his anger beating against her skin like the heat of a blazing fire. She began to sweat uncontrollably. "You'd be wise to keep your mouth shut human. You're punishment will be severe enough as it is." He knelt down and grabbed a firm hold of Amergin's chin through the net and forced it to face him, eye to eye. "Take this as a warning: from this point on, every action you take will decide your fate. Continue to defy us and we will make your life a living nightmare. You'll be devoid from food and water for days, chain to a wall in a barren, with nothing but the darkness to keep you company. You'll beg for death, but it will not be granted: We'll make sure of that. We'll make sure you're watered and fed just enough for you to go through your nightmare again and again and again."Stop it!" Sarah sobbed before she realized what she was doing. She crouched down and put her hands over her head and her face to her breast. This has to be a dream, she thought. Come on, wake up, wake up, please wake up." When she felt familiar strong arms lift her up, she knew her own nightmare was continuing. "It's alright Princess. You're safe." He said gently, in English this time. He rubbed her arms caringly. Sarah tears suddenly ceased. A large portion of her fear had suddenly left her body, and was replaced with utter confusion. "Wha-what?" "I said it's alright, princess. You'll be safe and sound at home soon." He put his hand on her shoulder and brought her up before Amergin."Look closely into your capturer's eyes, princess. Know now that you have nothing to fear." When she did look into his eyes, she saw hope. She'd seen similar hope in the eyes of every beggar in Manhattan. "So princess, do you have any suggestions on what this human's fate should be? Of course, you know the council's will make the final decision, but we are open to your suggestions."Suddenly, the truth hit her, and it was so glorious that she could just scream in triumph; they thought she was a princess. She would have chuckled at this if the situation weren't so serious. Since she was a princess, she had power. Perhaps she could persuade, no, command these elves to release Amergin…or at the very least, lessen his sentence. But was it worth the risk? They might have thought she was a princess, but once she began to talk and walk, they'd realize that she bore the grace of a cow rather than a swan. Perhaps it would be best to she told them the truth. After all, once they realized that she wasn't their princess, Amergin couldn't be punished for kidnapped one.
