"Hello? Danielle!" Jacques says again, a little louder this time. She
straightens up, apparently not having found what she was looking for, but
gives no sign that she has heard him. Muttering to herself, she walks
back up the slope. She passes within a foot of Jacques, but fails to
notice him.
Jacques is too spooked to open his mouth again.
