Amergin shrugged. "I have no idea. I never heard of another experience
anything like yours. But powerful magic must have been involved, both in
transforming you and in bringing you here. And since you had been
impersonating an elf, if I understood your story correctly, the sorceror -
or sorceress - responsible seems to have had a quirky sense of humour."
"Hold on a minute. You have magic here?" "Of course. Why, don't they where you come from?" "No. Well, not unless those tricks of David Copperfield's are real." That only brought an uncomprehending look from the bard. After a moment he said: "Talking of magic, trying to find a magical healer for you might be a good idea. You don't want to risk being left with a permanent scar on your face." "Presumably a healer would want paying, though?" "Yes. Hopefully one of my songs would be payment enough for what would be a comparatively minor healing spell." "Thank you. But I feel that I ought not to impose on your generosity too much but should find some way of paying my own way, for my food as well as for healing. And for new clothes too, of course. The trouble is that I doubt whether any of the skills that I learnt back home will be of any relevance here." "I'm sure that there will be something," Amergin replied. "I hope so. Anyway, now that I seem to be an elf, I suppose that I should find out what that entails. Apart from having pointed ears, how do elves differ from humans?"
