"How did you track him down?" I ask. "He was making enquiries, trying to trace your whereabouts. When he asked the auctioneer, the man - who's a friend of mine - wouldn't tell him who you were sold to. Instead he had the knight followed here and then got word to me." "In that case I'm surprised that Don's still alive and free. That must have been some time ago, as I'm sure that the auctioneer is one of the first people that Don would have gone to when he began looking for me." Maris spits on the ground. "He wouldn't have still been alive if you'd come to me just a day later. He was to die tonight. I didn't see any need to hurry, and besides it's been hard to find men who would be willing to help me to kill him. They'd all heard about what happened when he escaped from me before." I'm not surprised that Maris had been unwilling to face Don unless he had plenty of back-up. He doesn't strike me as being overly brave. When the three of us enter the shack:
