You slowly inch your way toward the princess, being careful to make as
little noise as possible. She's three steps away, now two steps away,
now one - when suddenly she is out of her chair and you are out of breath
on the floor with a very menacing dagger at your throat. "I don't know
who you are but if you don't tell me what you're doing here I'll slice
your throat," the princess whispers.
"But...but how did you know I was here?" "Look in the mirror, idiot. See how big it is? And how bright this room is? I knew you were in here from the moment you jumped through the window." You look around the room. It is indeed well-lit, so your black outfit is quite noticeable, and the mirror is considerably larger than it first looked. The dagger moves ever-so-much-closer to your throat. "Well? Are you going to tell me, or am I going to have to kill you without an introduction?" You search your mind for any answer that might work, then remember the graffiti from those bad spellers. "Um...my name is Nick. I got drunk one day and I told my friends the princess was mine, and they, uh, they told me to prove it, but, uh, could you move that thing away from me now, no?, a-all right, well, they told me to prove it, and I didn't know how, uh, so I, uh, I thought you might like someone who made a dashing entrance and stole a kiss from you, yeah, that's it, maybe that wasn't such a good plan." "No, it wasn't, but since you were honest with me, I'm going to be honest with you." A smile creeps upon her lips, though the dagger does not move. "You are so unlike all those other knights. Maggie's going to have quite a bit of fun with you." You're stunned. The princess is in league with the evil witch? "You...and the witch?" "You're right, dear." That's not the princess's voice. You scan the room, moving your head as little as possible, before settling on a tall woman coming out of what looks to be a secret passage. "This one seems so much more pliable than the other ones, whose heads are as hard as their armor. Hmm...he doesn't look like much, but I think with a little bit of convincing he could be quite useful to us." "Convincing? Useful? What is this? Where are you taking me? You have no right to do this! I'm calling my lawyer!" The last thing you hear before the princess pinches you in ironically the same spot you were planning to pinch her is, "He knows about lawyers? This man may be more valuable than I originally thought."
