I think that going left should take me in the opposite direction to the
area where the shooting took place, though I'm not one hundred per cent
certain. So I go that way. I try to avoid the temptation to break into a
run, and I also attempt to look as if I have every right to be where I
am, in case I encounter someone. I then realise that could be even more
important when I notice that there is a CCTV camera covering the hall,
though I have no way of knowing whether it is currently being monitored.
There is also a loudspeaker mounted high on one wall, and I am startled when it breaks into life. "All guards, be on the look-out for an escaper from the latest slave intake." It seems that someone has realised that they are a "slave" short, possibly from viewing footage from a CCTV camera back in the marshalling area. (I didn't notice one there, but I had other things on my mind and it would seem an obvious place to have one.) The message goes on briefly to describe my appearance and clothes, which fortunately are no longer what I am wearing. At the end of the hall, there are two doors. One has a window in the top, and I can see that there is a passage beyond it. Coming along the passage in my direction is a guard. I'd sooner not gamble on whether or not he guesses that I am the escaper when he spots me. So, even though the other door is solid wood and I can't tell what lies behind it, I open it and step through, closing the door behind me. I find myself in what seems to be a laboratory of some sort.
