Reciting from the Pardoner's Tale

The Black Void - Episode 523

I stumble through the following lines, from the start of the Tale proper, before Mrs van der Jagt mercifully tells me to stop:

In Flaundres whilom was a compaignye
Of yonge folk that haunteden folye,
As riot, hasard, stywes, and tavernes,
Where as with harpes, lutes, and gyternes,
They daunce and pleyen at dees bothe day and nyght,
And eten also and drynken over hir myght,
Thurgh which they doon the devel sacrifise
Withinne that develes temple in cursed wise
By superfluytee abhomynable.

"So, Holly," the teacher says: "would you like to have a stab at putting that into present day English?"

  1. I make an attempt.
  2. I answer honestly: "No, I wouldn't."
