"That I cannot tell you," Naomi says. "Your calling up the demoness
somehow opened a connection between us, so that I saw that encounter
through your eyes. But afterwards, as you lost consciousness, the
connection was broken. Seeing with my own eyes once more, I saw that I
had somehow been brought here. It's a part of Doria that I know well, and
I recognised where I was immediately. Then you suddenly popped into
existence here, which gave me quite a start."
It's nice to be able to hear her. The gods - or whatever they were - evidently restored my hearing. My dress is back to its original material too. Naomi goes on: "So where do you think that you went?" "The afterlife, maybe." I describe what I experienced. "So they evidently decided to send me back, though why I don't know. Tell me, how did you know that I'd been impersonating you?" "Because there was just enough time for me to have a conversation with Max before you appeared here, and he told me about meeting someone who he had thought was me." "What? Max is here?" I look around, expecting to see him. Naomi laughs. "No. But Max and I linked our minds through magic many years ago. That means that we can communicate telepathically, though I am the one who has to initiate the connection. When he met you, he thought that must be one of the things that I had forgotten how to do. Naturally, I immediately contacted him to find out what has been going on while I was away." "I see. But how did you know that I'm a Dreamer?" "Because - though you didn't mean to - you somehow brought me back. I'm sure that many mages must have tried to do that, but evidently they couldn't. The only human being that has ever been more powerful than a mage is a Dreamer. That you yourself didn't die when you should have points in the same direction...
