Toby was not known for his bravado, particularly in inebriated state. Only
the Gods, perhaps Bacchus in particular, knew what impulse caused him to
step in between the unconscious girl and her would-be abductor, raising his
fists in wobbly defiance.
"Come'n get'em!" he slurred. The stranger gave him a peculiar look. "Them?" "It. Her. Whateva." The bunnyman, whose name presumably was not Echo, frowned and bit his lip, apparently taken aback by Toby's multiple choice of pronoun. He's right, Toby thought. He had only had a brief look and jumped to a conclusion. What he had foolishly turned his back on, could be anything. A Construct. A Patchie. Even, unlikely as it seemed, an alien Chimaera. Or a boy. He shook his head trying to clear it. Wow, where did those thoughts come from? Had someone spiked his drink? He didn't even know what most of those words meant. Except for boy, and he was not 100% sure about that either. "Him," he added for good measure. The stranger smirked. "Ah, just guessing I see. I thought for a moment you were onto us." He paused and sighed. "Now look what you've done. I've said too much. Now I have to kill you."
