Proximity Warning System

The Black Void - Episode 4600

At least, you assume that the hut must belong to a witch, given the entrails and charms that are dotted about its yard. You continue along the dirt road, which passes right by the hut, hoping not to attract any attention.

However a couple of the charms, which hang by cords from the branches of a bush, start swinging to and fro as though being blown by a stiff breeze, even though there is almost no wind. In moving they emit a tinkling sound. You realise that this must be a warning system for the witch, to alert her to anyone passing by.

Perhaps she won't be at home, you tell yourself. Even if she is, maybe she won't take any interest in you.

  1. Sure enough, you pass safely by the hut without anything happening.
  2. The front door of the hut opens and the witch (you assume), an ugly old woman, comes out.
  3. The front door of the hut opens and the witch (you assume), a beautiful young woman, comes out.
  4. The front door of the hut opens and the witch comes out. You gasp in dismay. It's the evil Maggie. [664] What ill luck!
