You stare at the rotting fabric in confusion, picking at it to figure out
what is going on. Your clothes are rotting and falling apart! You figure
that there must be some sort of acidic, corrosive substance in either the
mud or the rain. Maybe it's some sort of magical thing. Regardless of why,
you don't figure it's a good idea to stay exposed to that sort of thing for
long. You fear your own flesh may start to rot and fall off. Not wanting to hesitate, you quickly strip off all your clothes. You spot a small river by the side of the road, nestled between a grove of trees. You make a run in your birthday suit (perhaps, more appropriately, Annabelline's birthday suit), covered only by mud. You hop into the icy water. It is intolerably cold, but you work quickly to remove all the mud. It appears that you're going to be alright. You set up a small fire by the bank of the river and shiver next to it. Approaching, you see the silhouette of a large man. You are a little frightened at first, but, as the silhouette becomes clearer, you can see that he has a gentle appearance. The man has a hunched back, misproportioned features, and walks with a limp. He approaches you, saying, "You poor thing, come with me, young one." He takes you into his arms and carries you to a bed in his hut. You don't care. You quickly fall asleep. You awaken to the sunrise. Last you remember, you were naked, but now you are wearing a couple of small burlap cloths to at least cover your more private areas. You get up and look around the place, wondering where you are and what is going on. The man bursts through the door, carrying a basket of vegetables and herbs. "Are you the one who saved me?", you manage, "Thank you..." He cuts you off. "No need to thank me. It was the least I could do." He smiles, and you can't help but feel completely at ease with him, despite his alarming physical appearance.
