Amergin sighed. "We seem to be going round in circles. We've just told
Kipper that we don't have anything which which to pay. Now we can only
tell you the same."
"Oh. Well in that case maybe you could pay by doing something for me. That confounded Kipper is bound to escape from the pit before very long. He's not as helpless as you two seem to be. And as soon as he gets out, he'll start making a nuisance of himself again. I've had enough of it. Promise that you'll take him away with you." "That's not a very attractive prospect for us," Amergin said. "He'd probably have stolen all our clothes before long. And what makes you think that he wouldn't soon give us the slip and come back here?" "Because if he does, I'll make sure that his life isn't worth living." Kendra's expression was so fierce as she said this that Sarah closed her eyes to shut it out. "Well..." Amerhin said, seeming uncertain. "Take it or leave it. You can stay in the pit if you'd rather. Perhaps when Kipper gets out he will help you both out, but I wouldn't count on it."
