I open my mouth to speak, but all that comes out is a tiny cat sound. I try
to swear, but only make a hiss.
This is where I lose my cool. I grab the bars with both handpaws and start
shaking the cage as I wail, screech and caterwaul at the top of my new
voice. I keep at it until the door at one end of the room flies open with
an audible thud, and a person enters. The lab Lab is wearing what looks like some kind of guard uniform and carries a heavy stick which he proceeds to beat against the bars of the cage as he snarls at me. A few seconds of this is all it takes for me to pipe down and crawl into the far corner of the cage.
The dog abandons his exercise with a final snarl, showing a bit too many
teeth for my taste, and walks over to sit on the teal couch. A bit calmer,
I sit down and ponder the situation. The first possibility is that the lab
people lied about sending me home, and are keeping me here for some
nefarious purpose. And they probably got this poor mutt to guard the place
by lying to him too. I have just started thinking about possible ways to communicate with the guard when he gets to his feet and walks out the other door.
