As my eyes focus I realize that the vertical gray stripes are steel bars.
I seem to be in some kind of cage. Didn't the lab guy tell me they were
going to send me home? My roving eye explores further and I find that the cage is hanging from the ceiling of a long room with doors at either end. There are more cages, all empty, on either side of the one I am in. There is a row of windows high on the wall opposite the cages, but they are too high for me to see anything but the sky. It looks like a sunny day outside, which is good because there are no light sources inside the room. There are some boxes with cryptic numbers against the wall under the windows, and a teal couch looking strangely misplaced in the middle of it all. Turning my attention back to the inside of my cage, I find that the floor is covered with dried plants with an odd smell that I find strangely comforting. Could it be catnip or something? Am I already cat enough to react to such things?
Over in the corner is a low open box... half full of sand... Curiously enough, there are no signs of a door anywhere. For all I know they built the cage around me. I make a quick round to check all the bars, but they are all firmly attached to the top and the bottom of the cage, and shaking them only makes the cage sway and makes me feel slightly nauseated, so I give up. All this time the world around me has been dead quiet. Is there even anyone else in the building? Well, if my new world doesn't want to sound off first I guess it's up to me.
