I try to regain my composure. If my dream is any guide, then lying to
Anorkin would be a very bad idea. But I'd rather not tell him the truth in
front of a third party. So I temporise. "Nothing's wrong," I tell
Tomas. "I'd prefer to consult Anorkin in private, though, so would you
mind waiting outside? I'll try not to be too long."
"There's no need for that, Lady Naomi," Anorkin says. His voice is deep and rich. Evidently he too thinks that he knows who I am, "He can wait in the kitchen, whilst you come into my study and tell me why you are here. It has a thick door, and if I close it we will not be overheard." After he has shown Tomas into the kitchen, and told him to help himself to food and drink if he is hungry or thirsty, he escorts me into his study. I am not reassured to find that it is apparently identical to how it was in my dream. But at least there is one variation, as he invites me to sit rather than leaving me standing. Then he sits down himself, and faces me across his desk. "So what can I do for you, My Lady?" he asks.
