A healer and mage? Well, that informs that these people do in fact
use magic, or at least believe in its workings. I'm worried about how
long I'll be
able to pull of this deception, but I'll deal with that when the time
comes. The guard meanwhile, has walked to the front of the gate and
called for it to be opened.
There is a loud clicking sound, and the gate slowly opens using some sort of gear mechanism, rather than the many people who would have been required to open it manually. Inside, the gatehouse is larger than I imagined it from the outside, seemingly carved into the mountain itself. It's also much more brightly lit than any building I've seen in quite some time. They appear to be using gas lights, rather than the oil lamps used in Laralia and Artazia. There are other hints, such as the clocks, the gate-works, even the refinement of the guard's uniform - to suggest that, either fueled by magic, science, or some combination of the two, these Dorians are more technologically advanced than their northern neighbors. Perhaps this is the reason for their isolation? "Right this way, My Lady." The guard says, leading me down a narrow corridor. "I'm sure Anorkin will be able to help you restore your lost memories." We pass by a few other guards, some of whom regard me with strange and surprised glances. Whoever this Naomi is, she certainly seems well-known. "Umm..yes, I hope so." I manage to bite out, feeling uneasy. We reach the end of the corridor, exiting out the other side of the gatehouse. "Well, here we are. Are you prepared, Lady Naomi?" I nod, and he leads me through the door. I am completely taken aback by what confronts me on the other side. As we're still high up in the mountains, I'd been expecting to walk at least down into the foothills, and perhaps take horses from there. But this? It just about confirms the existence of magic in this world. It appears our method of travel will be via...
