Impersonation

"That's right," I say, forgetting my resolution to be careful. I leave it at that, as it seems best to say as little as possible, to minimise the chance of making a slip that could reveal that I'm not who I'm pretending to be.

"But you've been away for so long, My Lady. We thought that you must be dead. What happened to you?"

"Er, I don't remember. I am suffering from amnesia, and can't recall anything before the last couple of days. I just decided that I might as well keep heading along the trail that I seemed to be following."

"I'm sorry to hear of your memory loss. Let me show you to our border post, just inside the gate. Then we can arrange for a guard to escort you to:

1. "Your husband and children, who will be thrilled to see you."
2. "The King, who will be thrilled to see you."
3. "The mage and healer Anorkin. He lives less than a day's journey away, and may well be able to restore your memory. That would seem to be the top priority."
4. "The regional governor."
5. "Prison. We only regretted that you seemed to be dead because then you would never stand trial for your terrible crimes."
