Sara Takes a Stand

"But, Sara..."

"I'll hear no more argument about it." Sara says. Her straightforward manner makes me smile. She's proudly assertive for someone so young, especially in a culture where such behaviors aren't necessarily seen as a positive for girls. Don seems unable to deny her.

"Now, Don, if you'd kindly give us some privacy. I'd like to talk to Hari a bit longer." She turns back to me. "I'm really interested in hearing your story."

An idea comes to my mind. I'm not sure how close she and John are, but it's worth asking. At least she may be more sympathetic than his father. "I'll tell you about it later, Sara. But there's something more important first. The reason I came here, well...it's about your brother."

"John? You know my brother?"

"Yes, and I'm afraid he's in grave danger. We came here to try to get help for him. Unfortunately, your father has refused to see us."

1. "That's awful! Come on, we'll go see my father right now! He's stubborn, but I'll talk some sense into him!" Don rolls his eyes, but in the end Sara gets her way, and we head off to meet the Marquess.
2. "We have to help him! But, I don't think I could convince my father. They had a really bad falling out a few years back. We'll have to do this secretly. "
3. "My father was right to disown him. Whatever danger he's in is probably the result of his own poor decisions." I wonder what John must have done that was so bad that even his sweet, young sister has turned against him?
