A Knock on the Door

The Black Void - Episode 3397

The village has only a small - rather basic - inn, but at least the rooms are clean. The innkeeper raises his eyebrows when he sees how Moula and I are dressed, but he is polite enough. They have two rooms free, and Moula and I take the one that has a double bed and our driver has the other. The staff manage to dig out a cot for the babies.

We arrange to have our evening meal sent up to our room, as I don't want to take the babies into the bar, where the air is sure to be be thick with smoke from the customers' pipes.

After our meal, we settle down for the night. As usual, I am woken in the middle of the night by the babies crying; they need feeding every four hours or so. I light a candle, and then see to their needs. Moula briefly stirs, but then goes back to sleep.

I have just finished and am about to extinguish the candle, when there is a loud knock on the door. Teran and John? But why would they wake us in the middle of the night rather than wait till the morning?

  1. It is Teran and John.
  2. It's Teran. But where's John?
  3. It's John, but where's Teran?
  4. It's the innkeeper. What can he want at this hour?
  5. It's Volke and Kanro. They must have overcome Teran and John. How did they manage to trace us to this village?
  6. It's our driver. He reeks of booze, having evidently spent a long evening in the bar.
