Several hundred years? Well, that turned a lot of science fiction stories on their head. Many had Earth being visited by technologically advanced cultures. Xorn seemed to be implying that if it hadn't been for humans, Beiberites like himself would still be on his home planet, wherever that was. Talk about culteral contamination, though. Interesting story, but what did it have to do with you not having to pay for accomodation, food and such like?

"I was getting to that," he said. "I'm willing to pay all your expenses during your stay here." Before you could object he continued: "See those other starbases out there? Well, I've got relatives who work on them, and they tell me they really enjoy their jobs. Your kind made that possible, so that's the reason why."
