The Mall

You emerge into an unfamiliar, but busy, shopping area bustling with people. As you look around, you bump into someone. It's a policeman! Eeeek! One thing is for sure - you have been very careful to elude the police and mall security guards because you are a wanted woman. You have deliberately stolen merchandise and pawned it for a living, and you have been caught a few times and thrown into jail. It seemed that every cop and security guard knows you too well and can recognize you from a mile away. Your picture has been plastered all over town after you were spotted pilfering a boom box last week. The last thing that you want to do is to bump into a policeman. Especially when this policeman has brought along a couple of his buddies from the police headquarters.

"Excuse me," says the policeman. "I wasn't looking where I was going." You have been disguised and this bump has knocked loose your dark sunglasses, which fall to the floor. You stoop down to pick them up. You then stand up so you can put on your sunglasses. That is when you notice that your brown wig has fallen off your head. How clumsy you are! The policeman picks up the wig and hands it back to you. "Ma'am, is there a reason why you are wearing a wig? Your nice curly blond hair looks fine to me."

Unsure how to reply, you start out: "Um, yes, um I mean no!" You check to make sure that you haven't dropped the earrings and necklaces that you have stolen from the jewelry shop. They're still in your dress pocket. Thank God!

"Well, which one is it?" asks the cop. After you hestitate for a minute, the cop asks: "Is someone stalking you? Would you prefer to stop by our office and discuss it privately?"

"Um, that is a good thought," you say, "but I am just fine, believe me."

"Well," says the cop. "Any time we can help, please don't hesitate to stop by. Have a good day." The cop and his buddies walk away.

"Whew!" you say to yourself. "Better be really careful next time." You wonder why none of the policemen recognized you. And you also wonder why you didn't recognize any of the cops. Maybe you are in a totally different town and no one knows who you are. If that is the case, you clearly don't want to find your way back home. Since this mall is still unfamiliar, maybe you ought to find out exactly where you are. Here are your choices:

1. Check out the directory of the mall that is visible down the hallway.
2. Loot the nearest jewelry shop.
3. Head over to the drug store and check out the newspaper.
4. Quickly leave the mall.
