At this hour, which I guess is around two or three in the morning, the
streets at first seem deserted, but then I spy a man wearing a white cloak
approaching me. I'm afraid that I may be propositioned. And so I am, but
not quite in the way that I was expecting.
"Sister, no-one should be reduced to walking the streets at this time of night," he says. "Why not come with me to the refuge that my order, the Brothers of Ignatius, maintains for fallen women such as yourself? There you can have some hot soup and a bed for the rest of the night." I realise that the man must be a monk of some kind, working for a charitable order. Perhaps I should accept his offer? The refuge is one place where with any luck Gustav would not think of looking for me. The alternative is a long and chilly walk to the Grand Hall, which I'm not even sure of finding in the dark, especially with no-one likely to be around to ask directions from.
