Under Arrest - But By Whom

The Black Void - Episode 2708

"I'll make the call for you," the doctor says. He picks up the telephone receiver and then presses a single key. Evidently that puts him through to an operator, for he says: "I've a B1 situation here. Would you get me the police department in Radcliff, Kentucky, please."

He waits for thirty seconds or so, then says: "Hello. Radcliff police? My namne is Doctor Morgan, at the Morgenthaler Research Complex in New Jersey. I've just had a young woman come in by the name of Anna Suarez. She looks to have a fractured kneecap but she's also very confused about how she arrived here. She says that she comes from Radcliff, and I wonder if you could confirm that for me. Her address is..." He looks at you enquiringly.

"120, Elm Street."

"120, Elm Street." He pauses, but you cannot hear what the person at the other end is saying. Then he says "thank you" and puts the phone down. "They'll phone me back," he says.

Ten minutes pass, and you are starting to become impatient, when half a dozen men in black suits burst into the room. They all have guns, which they train on you.

"Freeze!" one of them orders you.

"What's going on?" you ask. "Who are you people? Are you police?"

"Check her for weapons, then cuff her," the same man says, ignoring your questions.

One of the men puts his gun back inside his jacket and runs his hands over you. "She's clean," he reports. Then he cuffs my wrists together in front of me.

"So she's a B1?" the leader says to the doctor.

"Looks like it. She turned up in the building, having somehow evaded Security. No ID on her at all, and she couldn't - or wouldn't - explain how she came to be here. The conclusion was fairly obvious."

"Indeed. Thanks for calling us in." He turns back to you. "Come with us."

"But I can't walk," you protest.

"That's true," the doctor says. "She almost certainly has a fractured kneecap. You'd better take her in this wheelchair." He indicates the wheelchair in which you were wheeled into the room. [2615]

Two of the men lift you into the wheelchair. "What about my boots?" you ask. They are still on the floor next to the examination table.

"You won't be needing those," the leader says.

"I'm not leaving them behind. I paid almost a hundred dollars for them."

"Oh, very well. Rodriguez, bring her boots."

They wheel you to an elevator. You go down a couple of floors, and emerge in a reception area where several armed security guards are on duty. From there they wheel you across the parking lot to their vehicle.

  1. They lift you from the wheelchair into the back of the vehicle and then drive you away.
