Annoyingly, Zal speaks before Don and I can kiss: "We must get away from
here, and quickly. The first dead man's scream is likely to have attracted
attention, and the watch could arrive at any time. Two dead bodies would
take too much explaining, and we don't want anyone recognising Harry."
"What about him?" Nadia asks, pointing to where the man that Zal kicked in the groin is just getting unsteadily to his feet. "We can't very well kill him in cold blood or take him with us," Don says. "I doubt that he'll tell on us to the watch," Zal says. "It would be hard for him to do that without incriminating himself in your kidnapping. If the watch, or the palace guard, should come calling at the inn, I shall make sure that you and Harry are hidden in the cellar and say that whatever the man told them was a lie. Come on." With that, we start walking down the street at a good pace, heading back towards the inn. I stumble once or twice. I think I have a mild case of shock now that the adrenalin is no longer flowing. Also it's late and I haven't had much sleep lately. (I was working in the mine last night, and the only sleep that I've had since is dozing off in the bath once or twice. [2659]) Nadia persists. "What if he gets some of his friends, and comes to the inn seeking revenge?" "I don't think that's very likely," Don says. "He didn't strike me from the time when he was guarding us as being the type for that, just someone who wasn't too fussy about the jobs he did so long as he was well paid for them. Besides, he's had quite a fright. But it would certainly be a good idea if Harry and I left town as soon as possible, and headed back to Laralia."
