As well as a happy reunion with Don (and Nadia too - it would be remiss of
me to forget her after all that she's done for me), I have been looking
forward to taking a long hot bath, not only to remove the worst of the
grime (which at least isn't too obvious against my dye-darkened skin) and
the sweat, but also to unknot my stiff and aching muscles. But when we
arrive back at the inn, it soon becomes apparent that both these good
things are going to be at best delayed.
For the inn is dark and silent and - we quickly discover - empty. There is no sign of Don or Nadia - nor of Maris either, which is worrying. It looks as though some friends of his must somehow have discovered where he was being held, overpowered Don and Nadia, freed Maris and taken our friends prisoner.
