I remove my travelling cloak, which I have kept on until now, and drape it
over the desk. Then I lie down on the bed. I only intend to rest for a
short time until I feel a bit better, but the vision - or perhaps my
horrified reaction to it - seems to have taken a lot out of me. Before I
know it, and in spite of my worries, I have fallen asleep.
Fortunately I don't have to endure a repetition of my nightmare. Or at least, if I do then I don't remember it when I wake. In fact I don't remember having had any dreams at all. I don't know how long I have been asleep, but the small window high on one wall tells me that it is now dark outside, so it must have been several hours at least. I feel much better for the rest. I hope that if Nadia had returned with news that the monks would have woken me. Should I worry that I haven't yet had word from her (or from Zal, directed here by her)? I exit my room. It seems that all the monks have gone to bed, as when I retrace my steps I don't meet anyone, though the oil lamps have been left on so that I can see where I am going. There will presumably still be a monk on doorkeeper duty, though, so I decide to go to him and ask if anyone has been asking for me.
