Going Up

The Black Void - Episode 2556

You decide that senior management are most likely to be found on the top floor, so you press what you assume must be the "up" button. After a short delay, you hear the faint noise of the elevator approaching, and a short time later the doors open.

You manage to hop inside (you suspect that you have fractured your knee- cap) and examine the controls. You are on the first floor - or at least there is an illuminated "1" showing in the display above the (now closing) doors. There are buttons marked B, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. You press the last of these and the elevator smoothly ascends. When the illuminated number has changed to "5", the elevator stops and the doors open.

  1. You see what you had expected: a corridor with thick carpet on the floor, works of art on the walls, and office doors at intervals which are made of polished wood.
  2. You have come up too far. The elevator opens onto a roof-top observation area and garden.
  3. What you see beyond the doors is totally unexpected.
