The Black Void - Episode 2534

Once I have identified myself - Zal and Nadia do not recognise me at first, which I suppose is reassuring concerning the effectiveness of my disguise - I receive a warm welcome. There are only a handful of customers, and Zal leaves Nadia to handle them whilst he takes me out the back so that we can talk without being overheard. He fires a barrage of questions at me, until eventually I say: "I had better tell you the whole story since you saw me last."

When I have finished, some fifteen minutes later, Zal says: "I knew you couldn't have killed the Sultan. I saw the wanted poster, of course, and realised that Maris must have sold you to the harem, but I was sure that you must have had the blame pinned on you for someone else's crime. I'm not sure that it was very wise to come back to the city, even though you want to rescue your friend. That's doubly true now that Maris and his friends know how you are disguised.

  1. "I advise you to forget about your friend and to leave as fast as you can."
  2. "I might be able to help you to rescue your friend."
  3. "I know how you might be able to earn the money to buy your friend's freedom."
  4. "The first priority must be to get you a new disguise, though I'm not sure if we can remove the dye from your skin."
  5. Before he can go on, who should enter the room but Teran, a bloodstained bandage round his arm. I'd told him about Zal, of course, and he must have guessed that I'd come here.
  6. Before he can go on, Maris bursts in.
