The Word is "Numerology"

I'm afraid to ask the librarian for help because I don't want her to know how seriously I am taking all this. The card catalog is useless because it uses mainly controlled vocabulary and this is a subject that falls between the cracks. Finally I do give up and bother the librarian. She has the word that unlocks the gates...numerology.

I walk home with two books that I am going to have to hide from my rationalist mother. I have gotten good at hiding stuff like this over the years. I wish I did not have to be such a good keeper of secrets.

I get home and mom is there working on something or other in the kitchen. The all news radio is playing away. Sometimes mom listens to WQXR, the classical radio station of the New York Times (or at least it was in those days) but today it's WCBS AM. "Give us twenty minutes and we'll give you the world."

I can.....

1. Talk to mom. She's lonely.
2. Say I have to study so I can get cracking on my homework.
3. Say I have tostudy so I can secretly read one of those numerology books.
