Maris looks up at Teran, a mixture of surprise and fear in his expression. "What the Hell's going on?" he says.

"Let's just say that I have reason to think that you might need a little encouragement to help us."

"It was after the woman spoke to you. That somehow changed things, didn't it?"

His gaze shifts from Teran to me. Then I see recognition dawn in his eyes. "It's the damn slave!"

"Yes, it is. I hope that you got a good price when you sold me," I say.

He ignores my sarcasm.

  1. "But you're supposed to have been executed!"
  2. He says something that surprises me.
