It's evidently the sort of small, quiet place where folk go to bed early,
for thankfully I don't see anyone out on the streets. I consider breaking
into one or more of the shops, in the hope of obtaining some useful items.
But it looks as though the shopkeepers and their families live above the
premises, and I'm afraid that I might make enough noise to rouse someone.
If I knew where the mules were stabled, I'd be tempted to try to steal
one, but unfortunately I don't.
So I leave the town behind me as quickly as I can, following the path by the river and heading downstream. I decide that I'll walk till dawn, so as to put as much distance between the town and myself as possible, and then will try to find a good spot to rest. The moon gives me enough light to see by. After a couple of hours, I stop briefly to eat some of my purloined bread and meat, and take a drink from the river, and then carry on.
