Jacques is one of the tour guides in the Bahamas, where he takes visitors
from all over the world to the Bermuda Triangle and recounts tales about
ships and airplanes that have been known to enter the area and
mysteriously vanish without a trace.
Jacques doesn't really believe in the Atlantis myth, but he makes lots of money telling the tales of Atlantis to his guests. He doesn't really know exactly where famous people disappeared, but he pretends to know the exact spot where this person disappeared, and the spot where that one disappeared, to give an illusion that the tale is really alive. After all, he is a well known storyteller. At 6:00PM, Jacques has dropped the passengers off and is heading home on his empty motorboat, The Storyteller, back home to a cove on a realitively unknown tiny island called Loire, somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle. The trip normally takes him half an hour, and he knows the route by heart so that he can find his way home during his sleep. So he sets the engine on autopilot, checks his compass and settles down with a glass of rum. Twenty-five minutes later, he checks his bearing, adjusts course and watches Loire appear on the horizon and grow bigger and bigger. After all, Loire is an island with only six houses, each with its own dock and a central grassy area for the residents to gather and spend time together. He has a wife, Danielle and two boys, Jean - age 8 and Paul, age 6. Jean and Paul usually wait by the dock for Jacques to come home. Jacques examines the island and knows the landmarks of Loire by heart. Suddenly, Jacques realizes that something is wrong - the landmarks doesn't look quite right. He brings The Storyteller closer to take a look. The houses appear to have been abandoned and all the docks are empty. Then he sees a house that wasn't there before - the island appears to have seven houses instead of six. Yet his familiar custom built house is there. The sun appears unusually bright, which makes Jacques recognize the symptoms that the Bermuda Triangle is about to claim another victim, namely himself! Frightened, Jacques turns the boat around and sees the swirling Black Void coming his way! The void engulfs him completely. The next thing Jacques becomes aware is that he is still on his motorboat, The Storyteller, with the island of Loire, with its seven houses, nearby. The sun appears in the southeastern portion of the sky indicating that it is 11AM. It feels about twenty degrees cooler. He notices that there is a large wooden ship in the distance. He also notices a seaplane on the surface of the ocean in another direction. What does Jacques do?
