T'kept, who, incidentally, is still female, wants to learn more. Protocol
forbids unnecessary communication with an unknown civilization, but if she
walks a careful line, she may be able to gain valuable information.
Knowing that her chances of ever returning home are slim, and that she may
very well end up spending the rest of her life on this strange planet, she
elects to bend the rules a little.
"Uh, sorry Anthony Jennings. I'm afraid I'm a little lost." She bites her lip, trying to think quickly. "Well, where are you supposed to be?" Good question. She doesn't know anything about this planet's geography or naming conventions. Heck, she doesn't even speak the language; it's only because of her radio's advanced translating abilities that she can even understand... That's it! she thinks. The radio is translating his speech based on clues of context it has already picked up, and translating my words into his language in turn. So I just have to trust it to be smart enough... Trying to sound confident and knowledgeable, she focuses on her screen and picks a point at random. "I'm supposed to be...on the narrow end of that large land mass in the lower-right quadrant of my screen." She holds her breath, hoping the radio's artifical intelligence will deduce the local name of that area from whatever data it has been able to pick up.
