"You are absolutely right," says a smiling lab assistant whose brown-
streaked blond hair is held back with a large plastic clip. "Here's Joey,"
she says holding out a plastic container to you. Inside that container is
an ordinary black mouse with the saddest black eyes you have ever seen.
Suddenly you feel one of those rare, unavoidable pangs of sympathy for a
fellow small creature. You have no idea what is to be done to Joey but it
can not be good.
