He didn't stop until he was out of the house and standing in front of one of the other houses he hadn't investigated.
In fact, this paticular spot on the island was equidistant from three other houses. On a whim, he chose to investigate...

Mary Smithson's house. Mary was a former prison guard who had won the lottery and unofficial police officer of the island.
Stan Beuragaurd's place. Stan knew karate, Jacques had literally seen him breaking boards. A good man to help investigate weirdness.
Mosly Bentwin's small home. He maintained a stock of emergency supplies which has helped the other islanders many, many times.
