If Astra's spirit had been freed from the boat by removing it from the water, it seemed to Fred that it would be unkind to risk dragging her back to it by putting it back in the water. And though refloating it would require much less effort than pulling it out of the water had done, it would still take some. So it seemed better to leave things as they were. One thing that he noticed was that the boat no longer bore Astra's name, or indeed any name. He took that as a hopeful sign.
He dragged the boat a little further away from the canal, then said: "May you rest in peace, poor princess." He put on his clothes, grabbed the potion, and returned to dragon hunting. He retraced his steps to the square cavern where he had earlier seen a number of (non boat-associated) ghosts. [2924]
