"Good," said the Master. "I should like to have a few words with him, I
think." "Yeah, I think we all would," said Betty-1. "Hey, is our friend the Doctor here by any chance?" The butler ignored this last question, although they were all pretty sure he'd heard it. "Your rooms are this way," he said with a thin-lipped smile.
The rooms were about what you'd expect: drafty, dimly-lit stone chambers equipped with massive four-poster beds and wisps of cobweb in every corner of the high ceilings. They each had a private room, lined up in a row down one side of a long corridor. The door on the end was a foot-and-a-half high. Melissa disappeared into it and shut it firmly behind her. When the butler had disappeared, the rest of them all reconvened in the hallway. "So," said Betty-2. "What do you think?" "The master will..." Betty-1 began, then stopped, glancing at the Master. "Er, that is, he said the master of the house would join us for dinner at seven. If there actually were a sun in this place, I'd think I'd almost suspect it was Count Dracula, and he was just waiting for sunset." "With us on the menu?" said Betty-2 wryly. "Don't be absurd," said the Master. "Well, what do you think, then?" said Stacy peevishly.
