Fred and Diana clung to one another. "I am sorry I could not protect you," Fred shouted to be heard above the roar of the falls. Diana looked at him, her eyes alight with panic. "My lord, in the caves, something happened to me. Something changed me." "What are you talking about?" Fred asked, puzzled. "I can save you," was the last thing he heard her say before they went over the falls together. Fred woke up lying half submerged in a pool of water. Even after several seconds, he found that he could not move, not even to turn his head and look about. He spent several minutes trying not to panic. After what seemed like ages, he heard splashing and Diana's voice: "My lord! Wait just a moment longer!" He felt warm hands on his back, and suddenly he could move. He was so grateful that he turned and immediately caught Diana up into an embrace. She was surprised, but returned it after a moment. When they pulled apart, Fred said:
