Fred began to consider just how he could make the Pain Technician believe
the King was dead without actually commiting regicide. Just as the thought
entered his mind, his vision blurred and he found himself back in the
torture chamber.
"I know your thoughts, Lord Fred," chided the Technician. "There's nothing you can do to fool me. Besides, I would know if my own brother was dead or alive." Fred stared back in shock. "You're the King's long lost brother?" "Of course I am. Why else would I want him dead, if not to take his place on the throne?" The Technician's frown deepened as he spoke. "Since you've failed to perform the task I've assigned to you, I'll just have to wait for another hapless adventurer to arrive and take your place. You'll have to be severely punished for that, I'm afraid. What do you say to that?" Fred spied a panel on the wall of the chamber containing a button. If he moved quickly enough, Fred might be able to reach it before the Pain Technician could stop him, but he had no way of knowing what the button would do.
