BRACE!!

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 96098

“No signs of any kind of direct or indirect ionizing radiation sir,” a young male sounding man said off to the side, voice cracking in surprise.

General Hummel blinks and then glances in consternation over to the offscreen technician.

”I do trust that you’ve ran a diagnostic cycle on your scanners son?” the general drolly asked. “Considering that despite the level of interference the Dome provided everyone and their mother had been swearing those explosions were nuclear in nature . . .”

”Ah, and you’d be almost correct in that assessment except that where Nerv came from that world managed to advance the art of destruction past the mundane atomic weapon,” Rei said, interrupting the general again (much to his annoyance). “Instead nowadays back in Nerv and other UN entities used N2 devices for jobs when you just HAVE to go and utterly destroy something dead and GONE!”

”And what exactly the Hell is an N2 device?” the Marine officer snapped back at Rei. “It’s some kind of weapon similar to the Daisy Cutter or even the MOAB? And while we’re at it, nuke or not, why did your Nerv feel fit to use this weapon of mass destruction on American soil, hm? That I would just love to know if not as some kind of crass display of intimidation and power to scare us into some kind of concessions?

”Hell, while we’re at it just WHAT the Hell was with those war games, N2 devices and death beams and whatever the fuck!!”

The general was rather . . .livid at the last part, military decorum breaking a . . .bit. The again he was nearly at the end of his rope here with his patience.

”First answer: N2 devices are high yield explosive devices that have similar aspects to a conventional nuclear device without radioactive fallout,” Rei begins, counting off points one at a time with her fingers. “Something that the Japanese people of my and my sisters’ various timelines rather were adamant about IF such destructive weaponry should again be used upon our soil, general sir. Our ecosystems were fouled up enough as it were by an even we fondly called Second Impact. “

”Second Impact?” the general inquires, intrigued suddenly despite himself. Being something of the professional Marine officer and not at all familiar with anything to do with Neon Genesis Evangelion (or much all to do with the worlds Rei and her sisters haled from), such information may prove to be useful.

Hopefullly this would be more tolerable than the briefing he had to endure from a wild eyed Japanese anime fan who kept on having “nerd- gasms” over the fact that there were real giant Japanese robots out there under the Dome (or rather robots from another dimension with its own version of Japan if the egg heads were on the ball here).

Much better than that idiocy about some kind of obscure “role playing” game called Torg where extra-dimensional invaders were trying to invade “Core Earth” by changing the vary laws of physics themselves (to favor the invaders armies). That particular briefer only started to babble something about “Darkness Devices” and “Possibility Energy” before the Marine general had him thrown bodily out of the briefing room for having wasting his freaking time!

The laws of physics must be different enough from his Earth’s for it to allow giant robots (or whatever kind of creatures Evangelions really were, real robots do not BLEED), but they were similar enough to allow nuclear devices to work IF it came down to it.

He didn’t like having to do it, but he’d nuke these bastards until they glowed (or at least nuke the supporting infrastruction) and shoot them in the dark…

. . .

Or in the case of the Evas, after the five minute mark when their batteries ran out and they ran out of power. Nice thing that those in NERV had coded transmissions which were readily cracked by the intel types!

”First Impact referred to the meteor strike that wiped out the dinosaurs,” the blue haired young woman answered quickly to not be drawn off on a tangent. “Second Impact refers to a supposed meteor in my and my sisters’ worlds which destroyed the Arctic continent. “ It melted the icecap there and raising the ocean levels while, causing tidal waves that devastated the coastlines and while changing the angle the world rotated upon, changing the seasons. Let’s not go into the chaos which befell my and my sisters’ worlds afterwards! In the end the initial devastation and the protracted wars over resources cost us half the world’s population!”

Hummel blinked at that one: “Supposed” meteors, And this Second Impact leading to the death of half a world’s population. That did not bode well for these folks in NERV to be . . .the most reasonable of people; more like VERY desperate people. Perhaps desperate enough to invade another reality, as fantastic as that had seemed until now.

Before, he’d thought that this whole deal had been some kind of . . .maybe imperialistic expansion? That the invaders had been putting on some kind of show of force to intimidate Earth’s defenders into submission? Maybe still something like that, but now it looked more like a desperate bid to gain natural resources like petroleum? Food even?

This did NOT look good at all now.

”Second answer: the war between Nerv and the Angels is a real war sir!” Rei continued, a clear tone of being rather insulted now within her voice. “Why in the blazes would you think with all the destructive firepower being thrown back and forth between us was some kind of war game. Second Impact was NOT an actual meteor strike but . . .”

”Takahashi you are NOT authorized to . . .” a female voice begins, trying to break into the conversation. The sound of a giggling man in the background, followed by interspersed mad screams, is heard in the background.

The man sounded like Gendo Ikari if Rei guessed right (and he did not sound at all good by the sound of it). Setsuna must have done a real number on the guy to leave him in THAT state.

Frankly, getting battered about by Sailor Moon (or whatever) aside that the acting Commanding Officer of NERV (the Vice Commander was also getting dragged away into the brig by rather confused Section 2 goons), Misato felt Gendo deserved it. Setsuna had revealed the most . . .interesting facts about the real purpose of NERV and BOY was she pissed!!

As for the female voice, it was none other than Colonel Misato Katsuragi. Oh, she sounded rather put off right at the moment. A bit frenzied (and who would not be, after finally wresting control of NERV from a man who’d obviously LOST his mind), but Misato all the same.

She was more than a bit confused to find that NERV was . . .no longer in Japan but in America (and being threatened by what she believed to be a rogue Marine general with nuclear weapons). Considering what she had gone through, before with Sailor Moon and then acting out all those bizarre battles with Angels….

Really? Catching an Angel with the Evas before it hit and destroyed Tokyo 3? Madness!

. . .Well, she wanted answers as well but did NOT want certain facts to come to light just YET! The panic and rioting alone the public at large would do when they learned the truth behind Second Impact . . .

An annoyed grimace flashed across Rei’s lovely features before a quick series of commands into her laptop silenced Katsuragi’s interruption.

”Second Impact was the retaliation of the first Angel named Adam for having been pierced by what amounted to a LARGE red stick by a scientific team who did NOT know what they were getting themselves into to see what would happen.

”So . . .this Angel war is real and started over some Angel alien getting poked by a stick?” the general blinked, trying to absorb that. “And it retaliated by destroying the ARtic as well as pretty much . . .?”

”That is part of it,” Rei finished, nodding. “It’s insanity, the whole of it. The fact is that the scientist were merely stooges in a much larger conspiracy by a secretive group called SEEELE in what amounts to an assimilation plot by SEELE to ‘evolve’ all of mankind by combining the remainder of humanity into some kind of godlike creature with THEM in control of the mass mind. BUT that cannot happen now because with NERV and various OTHER elements needed for that plot to WORK being stranded HERE rather than back in our home dimension after . . .

A bright flash of light off in the distance announces something.

“After We break this disruption wave here,” Rei shouts, huddling down slightly as a tidal wave of light approached. She really hoped that Setsuna’s spell work was up to snuff here or this was going to be VERY annoying VERY quickly here.
