Julie Is Chosen

"Just a moment," Stacy said. "You're a doctor and can remove the device - fine. But surely you can hardly be an electronics expert too? How will you know whether what you've removed is the real thing?" Falk intervened. "If he removes any sort of electronics device, that will be sufficient proof, I think. Neither he nor I needs to be any sort of an electronics expert, though of course ultimately an expert will need to see it. It's almost midnight and, whilst we have a doctor on call at all times, that doesn't apply to electronic experts."

Falk and Stacy waited for Julie and the doctor to return. After a little while:

1. Julie and the doctor came back. Anderson had the device in his hand.
2. Falk's mobile phone rang. He was needed on a murder investigation, and would have to leave at once.
3. Anderson came back alone. "She ran off before we even got to my examination room," he said.
