"What did the poor fellow die from anyway?" Nendi asked the man examining
the body.
"Heart attack, Miss." "Oh, the strain of getting hit on the head too often, I guess?" "No, Miss, just healthy living." Nendi blinked. "You mean UNhealthy living, right?" "Are you kidding?" the other man piped in. "My grandfather smokes and drinks and eats fat food and never exercises, and he lived to be a hundred!" Nendi blinked again at the mixed tense. "I take it you're prescient?" The man nodded. "I know there are some odd job placements in this court, but why aren't you a seer?" "The job is taken for the next six and a half years. But it comes in handy in this job too. Knowing when people are about to die enables us to be ready to pick them up at short notice when they expire." "We have to be careful though," his colleague observed. "People who have lost someone close to them, tend to get upset if we arrive before they summon us." Suddenly Nendi thought of something and looked around. "Hey, where did that flunky go?" "He left, Miss. Said something about his services being required elsewhere, and he couldn't flunker a dead man anyway."
