Fred finds himself in the inventory room for the dragon's hoard. He had heard stories of these places. Though it seemed dragons just liked to sleep on piles of treasure, they really knew where everything was and what it was and who they had eaten (if anyone) to get it. The interns who ran the room stared gape-eyed at Fred. They were all halflings, with typical hairy hands, dinner-plate sized wolf-paws for feet and the color-changing hair. Fred put his hands up. Scattered around the wood paneled room were ten in number and they could cause trouble if they attacked at once. Especially if they did it feet first. Fred sighed in relief. All their hair had changed to a dull yellow, hair- speak for 'We are peaceful'. The nearest one, an older man with watery eyes, pointed to a piece of paper. Swiftly he wrote, 'Please help us escape'. A slot opened near the floor and the man dumped the paper in. There was a lick of flame. Paper disintegrators under the floor! The dragon must be terribly advanced that they could dispose of paper like that! What could humans learn from exploring these caves? But now, for the matter of helping the halflings.
