"I think we should kill him, the way we do every other man who tresspasses in our territory," said the adviser, Alryssa.

"I'm not so sure," said Astra. "The Stone would have killed him instantly, if it had not deemed him worthy to carry it. He could be useful to us. Besides, he's different. I can feel it."

"You're not falling in love with him, are you?" asked Alryssa.

"No, of course not," said Astra. "If I did, I would lose my immortality, under the terms of our pact with the Elementals. But I think that perhaps, for once, it would be better if we let this man live."

"The Elementals will be displeased with this," said Alryssa.

"The Elementals can surely tolerate the loss of one sacrifice, especially with the goal of freeing us from Myrddin and Zerm."

"Your actions will probably make the Elementals very angry. I think that we should sacrifice him after he helps free us."

"You're probably right," said Astra. "Very well. But still, it's a shame. He's the only truly noble man I've ever met..."
