"You mean...you're doing this gig for free," you say slowly, wonderingly.

"Yep." He sounds matter-of-fact about it.

"As a heart attack." He sounds oddly smug.

"Okay, soooo...why?" you ask.

"Well...it's what I do," he says. "I do it because I CAN. Because I see a problem and I can do something help. I'm not going to lie and say that it's always easy or fun, or that occasionally I'm not tempted, but...basically, the way I was brought up, I was taught that people who COULD help, should, no strings attached. And besides, I don't think I need much. I have my friends, my family. I've experienced things no one else has ever even imagined. So, I'd say it's pretty adequate compensation, wouldn't you?"

"And yet, you're asking my for money," you say. "You can turn coal into diamonds, and you're asking ME for a couple fins...?"

"Hey, you ever try to break a 60-carat diamond at a 7-11?" he says. "I have a day job, and it's been a long week..."
