Carola couldn't be sure that the symbol had anything to do with the group
that she was attempting to follow, but somebody had at some point gone to
a lot
of trouble to put it there. It must surely be intended as some sort of
marker and its presence implied that people used the gully as a path. It
was the only clue
that she had, and besides she instinctively felt that up the gully was the
way to go.
Carola walked up the gully for fifteen minutes or so. Then it ended abruptly at an almost vertical wall of rock. But in the rockface, right in front of her, was the opening to a tunnel.
