A Clue?

Then, something caught her eye. There was a strange symbol on the wall near the gully. It was apparently the top view of a tetrahedral pyramid. Two of the faces were in shadow, and two were in light. The pyramid had three layers, and there were four strange glyphs in the top layer, one on each of the faces.

Carola had never seen the symbol in her life. What could it possibly mean? But it was the only clue she had. So she...

1. Went into the gully.
2. Continued down the main path. The symbol's placement could be a trick as well.
