Astra, the Astra who the others insisted on calling "Astra 2" (she had as much right to be the
"original" Astra as the other one, of course, but didn't think it was worth pressing the point) was
by now used to the presence of her counterpart but still could not quite bring herself to walk in
the face. She walked the same way she remembered walking yesterday, when she had been in
her own world, but all they saw was sand and more sand. The black tower of Vincent was nowhere
in sight.
"I doubt we'll be seeing that tower you spoke of," said the other Astra, or rather "Astra 1." "I doubt the way of things in this world will be the same as in yours. We could be in a different desert." "Or a different world," said Exotica, her voice quiet and fearful. Though they still did not find the black tower, they eventually came across an oasis. "We must be careful," said Lord Fred. "It could be a mirage." But luckily, it was nothing of the sort. The four weary travelers sat down to drink from its waters. Though Astra 2 felt refreshed, her spirit was still troubled. She looked up at the alien sky and its stars, arranged in almost but not quite the same patterns as her own. At least the moon was not full. Astra 1 had dismissed the fear that her curse had been permanent because it had vanished away so quickly, but Astra 2 was not so sure. The magics of the caves bent time and space and could therefore make the curse of a werewolf react in unpredictable ways. At least she was free from them now. "Look," said Astra 1, interrupting her thoughts. "There's someone coming our way." They all gasped when they saw just who it was. The new arrival seemed to be...
